VISITORS

Pictured with Mrs Bennett and Broadgreen MP Jane Kennedy are
a group of teachers from our partner schools involved in the Comenius Project.
They spent five days with us from Wednesday 26th November to Sunday 30th November.
During their visit to the school our guests were greeted by an excellent presentation of Liverpool culture prepared by Miss Buckingham and Year 6.
At the same time our local MP Jane Kennedy came to discuss our collaboration and provide support.
The school left a lasting impression on them

CELTIC DRUMMER

When a native Celtic Drummer and Storyteller visited school recently, the children were kept enthralled by his musical and narrative talents.
Each class was mesmerized in turn by the traditional tales and folk music.
The children
were fortunate enough to experience some of the instruments first hand.

On Thursday 27th March Knotty Ash School were delighted to receive a visit from Mr Bill Bygroves and the Community Team from Liverpool FC.
They brought with them the 2001 Treble haul. Although the UEFA, FA and Worthington cups all made an appearance, the most important reward on show was the talk from Mr Bygroves.
The stark presentation of a five point message brought from Mr Gerard Houllier and Liverpool Football Club is fully endorsed by Knotty Ash.
1.
Give racism the red card.
2.
Give Bullying the boot.
3.
Kick drugs into touch.
4.
More importantly than being a good footballer is being a good person.
5.
Youll never walk alone.

School was taken over for the day on Thursday 17th October as The Childrens Company visited to record an episode of Ripley and Scuff.
Ripley and Scuff are puppet stars of the hit Childrens ITV show of the same name.
They were invited to mess about by Mrs Pierce who contacted them earlier in the year.
We are delighted when they agreed.
They brought their jet car and friends Strid and Bargie to mess about with the children all day.
Everyone enjoyed the host of activities which included line dancing, learning signing, learning about guide dogs for the deaf, playing football and dancing with the band.

The programme featuring Knotty Ash is due to go out on Wednesday January 8th, but the series itself will run for 8 weeks.
Top banana viewing!
World in One City
As the 2002 Round the World Clipper Race prepares to depart Liverpool on October 27th, dozens of Liverpool schools have taken to the canvass in an effort to depict the World in One City.
Each of the canvasses have been hung around Liverpools Albert Dock area to inspire the competitors.
Year 6, with the support of Miss Buckingham, spent a painstaking week carefully hand painting the waterfront skyline.
Knotty Ashs work is prominently positioned and is a credit to all who worked on her.

Commonwealth Games
On Sunday 21st July Knotty Ash School choir travelled to the Commonwealth Games
Athletes Village in Manchester to take part in a "Welcome Ceremony"
hosted by Games Village Deputy Major, Felicity Goody.
The 38 pupils and 4 staff were delighted to be chosen to represent Liverpool Schools at one of these ceremonies, and have been practising the specially commissioned Welcome Song for many weeks.
On arrival they were told they would be extending the welcome to the Australian Team. Many of the Commonwealth Games volunteers and workers are also Australians, so the audience was one of the biggest.
The choir sang, signed, danced and performed the song "The Mancunian Way" to cheers and applause from the Australians and from the British officials.
Later Knotty Ash pupils enjoyed the opportunity to meet the audience, sharing good luck postcards with many of the athletes.
The athletes praised the choir, took photographs and were photographed with Knotty Ash pupils.
Paul Millu, a boxer, told Knotty Ash staff " The kids were fantastic! What a great welcome!"
Steve
Marsden the organiser and schools liaison officer for the Welcome Ceremonies
commended the choir's lively, enthusiastic presentation saying " The Australian
contingent is so large - with athletes, team officials and Games staff that
we really needed a performance as good as Knotty Ash's to help celebrate their
welcome - Well done!!"

The athletes praised the choir, took photographs and were photographed with Knotty Ash pupils.
Visit to Anne Frank Grundschule
By Mr
Pearson,
I was recently very privileged to be able to visit the Anne Frank Grundschule,
in Gross Warnow in Germany with Mr. Andy Williams, Deputy Head. This school
is the partner school of our own Centre of Excellence for the German language,
Knotty Ash JMI Primary.
The aim of the visit was to meet the staff and pupils, to gain an impression
of the village, its surroundings and its community, and to further strengthen
the very positive links that exist to benefit pupils both here and in Germany.
The visit
was an outstandingly successful and enjoyable event.
Mr. Williams and I were able to teach English to pupils in the school, to meet
and socialise with teachers, parents and members of the community, to visit
local and regional places of great interest and to discuss our plans with a
reporter from the local newspaper, the Prignitzer.
Two particular high points for me were watching the school community practising their line dance and seeing the pupils in action as volunteer fire brigade cadets.
The overall
standard of spoken English was very pleasing, as was the obvious enthusiasm
which the children displayed when given the opportunity to speak with a native
speaker!
The pupils enjoy conversations, role-play situations, singing songs and playing
language games.
I learned much for use in England by watching the German children show their
repertoire of children's songs with actions!
Much fun was also had making a cup of proper English tea.
We now plan to build upon the letter writing links and deepen the contact by using email and video conferencing.
The area is one of beauty and interest, with many historical buildings and much fine rural countryside to admire.
My abiding memories of this special time are as follows: the breathtaking friendliness of the people; the interest of the children in learning English; the special beauty of the countryside and the happy atmosphere in the school.
Thank
you Mrs. Monika Bolte and the community of the Anne Frank Grundschule and community
in Gross Warnow.
